They hit the music industry with their debut single, Wrong, which was released independently and went on to become a considerable success, resulting in the group getting a recording deal with the label, Alias Records. The track was later included in one of the top 500 songs of the recent decades by Pitchfork Media.
Archers of Loaf went to work on their debut full length studio album and released it in the year 1994. The record was titled Icy Mettle and was well received critically as well as with the audience. The albums gradually gained enormous success, and is believed to be one of the landmark records of alternative rock in the 1990s. The same year, the band issued an EP called Vs the Greatest of All Time which also became considerably successful. Shortly afterward, the group released their second full length studio album, titled Vee Vee. It was titled All the Nation's Airports, and went on to gain more success than any of their previous albums. This became their first album to be distributed with a famous recording company, Elektra Records. Following the release of the album, the group went on an extensive tour to promote their music, giving performances at numerous places.
In the year 1998, the band released their final LP, White Trash Heroes. This was different to their previous albums in many ways, and deviated drastically in terms of its style and genres. It gained mixed reviews from the audience as well as the critics, but still did well on the market. The band called it quits the same year, due to the fact that Prince had to go through surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome. However, this immensely talented group reunited once again on the 5th of January, 2011 to an enthusiastic reception at The Cat's Cradle in Carroboro, North Carolina, opening for a local band called The Love Language.
