The lead vocalist of the band, Ben Bridwell was a member of the another band, Carissa’s Weird and after the disbandment formed a band joined by the previous band’s drummer and bassist, Tim Meinig and Chris Early and later on the vocalist and guitarist, Mat Brooke. The new band gained recognition after opening for Iron & Wine and releasing a Tour EP under the label of Sub Pop.

The band started working on its debut album and released it in 2006 under the label of Sub Pop. The album was a mix of new songs as well as some from the Tour EP.
