The multi-talented Peters moved to Los Angeles in 1970s as she had started to receive film offers by famous Hollywood producers and directors.
Her Hollywood career which started in 1973 continues till today and she has worked in over 32 films ever since. Peters, the philanthropist, runs an animal adoption charity along with Mary Tyler Moore, called ‘Broadway Barks’. In order to not only raise the necessary funds to run her charity but also to educate the public at large, she along with Moore, organize various social events on regular basis. For example, in 2009, she performed at a concert in New York City to raise funds for Broadway Barks and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids (another of her philanthropic project). Bernadette Peters collected over $600,000 for both of her charities. In addition to the concerts, she also writes children books to spread the word of her charitable work. One of her books, Broadway Barks, reached position no. 5 on The New York Times Children’s books category. Her second book, Stella is a Star, was about a pit bull, named Stella.
