When we talk of rock and roll, Black Crowes is one American band that has managed to carve its niche by selling over 20 million albums. They were voted as the 'Best New American Band' by the readers of Rolling Stone in 1990. Also, Melody Maker marked them as "The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World". The group started as "Mr. Crowes Garden" in Atlanta in 1984 with emphasis on 1970s-era blues-rock. The band has always derived inspiration from brothers Chris & Rich Robinson. Apart from this, Black Crowes owe their motivation to Humble Pie, The Rolling Stones and The Faces. In 1989, they entered a contract with American Recordings thereby making a demo cassette tape.
In 1992, their second album "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" was released. It was a major success debuting at #1 on Billboard's top 200 albums. Singles like "Remedy", "Hotel Illness" and "Sting Me" in the album were warmly received by the audience. Black Crowes hired their own keyboard player Eddie Harsch to help them in their projects. He supported the group starting with their tour "High As the Moon" but the association failed to develop later on.
Their got their album 'Amorica' released in 1994 but it was not successful in commanding real success but it still earned Black Crowes sales of over 500,000 units. The group then went on tour to promote 'Amorica' where they joined hands with another group 'Grateful Dead in Tampa' performing together.
Black Crowes released 'Three Snakes & One Charm' in July 1996. One of the songs on this album "Blackberry" was relayed on radio while being repeatedly shown in MTV. Some bad luck occurred when an almost ready album named Band was scrapped due to mounting differences amongst the band members. The band got almost dissolved when a guitarist was fired and a bassist himself left. However, the band united again releasing 'By Your Side' in early 1999. Black Crowes entered the second millennium by releasing a music label. It contained such hits as "Soul Singing" and "Lickin". The band was honored by being inducted into the Guitar Center Rockwalk. Slash and Noel Gallagher (Oasis guitarist) graced the ceremony with their presence. In April 2009, the band released 'Warpaint Live via the Eagle Rock Entertainment label' which was a two-disc live release.
