After Bobby Vinton graduated from college, he spent two years working for the United States army, where he worked on the position of the assistant of a chaplain. In the year 1960, Vinton managed to secure a recording contract with Epic Records. He released numerous singles and two albums with the company, all of which did not manage to gain as much success as he had hoped. He hit the jackpot his his first successful single, which was titled Roses are red (My Love), which he had to promote himself, since Epic Records was ready to pull the plug on their contract. Vinton delivered copies of the single, along with a bouquet of red roses to various local disc jockeys. As a result of this, the song became a major hit, spending no less than four weeks on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In the year 1963, Bobby Vinton released one of the most popular songs of his career, which was named Blue Velvet. The song climbed to the number one spot on the music charts of England. The following year, he released another album, which was titled I Love How You Love Me, which surged to the number nine spot, getting gold certification by the RIAA and selling more than a million copies as well.
