After the release of her debut album, she toured for almost two years with the Hanseroth brothers. The trio also worked on several songs for her second album. In the year 2005, Carlile was placed on the 10 Artists to Watch in 2005 list of the Rolling Stones magazine. By the end of the following year, she had performed as a headliner and in support of numerous other musicians on her tour, including stars such as Shawn Colvin, Tori Amos, Chris Isaak, The Frey, Indigo Girls, Hanson, Jonny Lang, Ray LaMontagne among various others.
Brandi Carlile released her sophomore album in April of the year 2007. The record was titled The Story and it was produced by T Bone Burnett. The album also features a song in collaboration with the Indigo Girls, entitled Cannonball. Three of her songs were featured on ABC's hit TV show, Grey's Anatomy, namely Throw it all Away, What Can I Say, and Tragedy. The lead song of her album was featured in a Super Bock commercial and a General Motors commercial along with being aired during the Beijing Olympic Games. In addition to this, her song, The Story, was featured in the final episode of Grey's Anatomy in March of the year 2011, sung by Tony Award winning actor, Sara Ramirez.
In February of the year 2008, Brandi Carlile appeared as a special guest star on five concerts on the tour of Newton Faulkner in the United Kingdom. Throughout the next March and April, she performed with One Republic and Maroon 5 in Australia. Soon after she finished touring, she went to work recording her third studio album. The record was released on the 6th of October, 2009 and was entitled Give Up the Ghost. The album climbed to the number twenty six on the Billboard 200 in the United States. It also features a song in collaboration with Elton John, titled Caroline.
