Bret Michaels, originally born and named as Bret Michael Sychak, was born in Butler, a city near Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania. His path as a musician began when he was a teenager – he player the guitar and then formed his first band alongside Rikki Rockett as the drummer, Matt Smith as the guitarist and finally Bobby Dall as the bass player. The band was known as ‘Paris’ and it played in Pennsylvannia and then moved on to Los Angeles to try and make a name for themselves on the Sunset Boulevard. The band and its members were propelled into fame – in 1987. As of his breakup, he wrote the single ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ and it was released in December 1988. It soon became the ‘ultimate 80s anthem on heartbreak’ via its release as a power ballad single.

It was in this decade that Poison was highly regarded as simply one of the best, if not the best, glam metal groups all over the globe. Their second studio album, Open Up and Say..Ahh! was a multi-platinum album in terms of sales, a feat that was also replicated by the third studio album, Flesh & Blood. The band and Bret Michaels were also part of the MTV Video Music Awards. The fourth poison album was titled as Native Tongue and featured a new guitarist, Richie Kotzen. In the late 1999, after a reunion with the one of the original guitarists, C.C. Deville, the entire Poison lineup went on an immensely popular and success filled reunion tour of their greatest hits as a band. Bret Michaels released his first solo album in 1998 titled as A Letter from Death Row which also acted as the soundtrack to a movie of the same name, directed by Bret Michaels. In 2005, he released a country rock album, Freedom of Sound, with popular singles such as ‘Right Now, Right Here’ and ‘Open Road’.

In June 2008, Bret Michaels released an excellent album, a ‘best of’ album titled as Rocky My World. It has music from his own reality TV series, Rock of Love, as well as several new singles such as ‘Go That Far’, ‘Start Again’and ‘Fallen’.
