Born in 1965, Chris Rock has been rated as the fifth greatest stand-up artiste of all times in the comedy arena by Comedy Central. Both his parents were definitely not from show biz. His mother was a teacher and a social worker while his father was a newspaper deliveryman and truck driver. However, Chris Rock was inspired in some ways by his grandfather who used to deliver preaching sermons. It was in year 1985 that the young Chris entered stand-up comedy with the show Catch a Rising Star. His enthusiasm made him quickly rise and he landed small roles in 'Miami Vice' (TV series) and the film "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka". Veteran Eddie Murphy happened to come across one of his performances and gave him some professional tips. Chris Rock ultimately earned his first full fledged role in Eddie Murphy's "Beverly Hills Cop II".
The comedian was then also cast regularly in Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 1990, which was a very popular sketch comedy series. One year later, he released his first comedy album Born Suspect and at the same time was highly acclaimed for his role in the film New Jack City. All this while, he continued performing in SNL which made him a renowned artist in the national arena. Chris Rock then eventually left the comedy series and then made an appearance In Living Color, which was an African-American sketch show. He then seriously pursued a film career starting with a film CB4 with his own script besides acting in it also. Unfortunately the film failed to reap any success and Rock could not find any good film role also after that compelling him to say goodbye to Hollywood.
Chris Rock decided to take up stand-up comedy and acted in a HBO comedy special in 1994. Two years later his second stand-up special, Bring the Pain classified him as one of the best comedians of the trade earning him two Emmy Awards. With a little bit of versatility, he also did commentary for Comedy Central's Politically Incorrect in the Presidential Elections (1996) and was nominated for an Emmy. His real big time came when he hosted the 77th Academy Awards ceremony in 2005.
