Originally named as Dorothy Snowden Williams, this talented musician was born on 19th April, 1967. An American songwriter and singer, she is best known for her pop folk style of music. Nicknamed as ‘Dar’, Williams was born in Mount Kisco, New York and brought up in Chappaqua. Trying to make her name in the world Dar Williams went to Boston, Massachusetts during 1990, where she explored her career in theater. Working as a stage manager for Opera Company of Boston for a year, Dar Williams also started to write songs and record demo tapes, she also took some voice lessons to develop her musical skills. At the start of her career Dar Williams used to play as opener for artists like Joan Baez. But later on, she also did a duet with Joan Baez, Ring Them Bells. In her earlier days, her music became very popular in public radio, coffeehouses and on the Internet. With her own record label, Burning Field Music, Dar Williams recorded her first album which was titled as The Honesty Room, and released in 1993; the album featured several artists like Nerissa and Katryna Nields, Gideon Freudmann and Max Cohen. The Honesty Room was also reissued with two bonus tracks in 1995. That year, The Honesty Room became one of the highest selling independent folk albums for 1995. With her folk style and independent label, Dar Williams rocked the world with her third album which was titled as End of The Summer and released in 1997.
 
All of her collections of albums and EPs are remarkably good, and her fans from all over the world simply adore her music. From Dar Williams’ 1990’s I Have No History to Many Great Companions from 2010 all of her albums are superb. Dar Williams has also performed for several humanitarian causes; she has also founded a trust called Snowden Environmental Trust.
