With countless hit songs and albums, Death Cab for Cutie are one of the most sought after indie groups of the United States. Established in the year 1997, Death Cab for Cutie are made up of talented musicians such as Jason McGerr on the drums, Nick Harmer on the bass guitar, Chris Walla on the keyboards, production and guitar and Ben Gibbard on the piano, guitars and lead vocals. The name of the band is based on a song written by Vivian Stanshall and Neil Innes, which was performed in a movie called Magical Mystery Tour in the year 1967. The band was initially a solo project started by Ben Gibbard during the time he was working as a guitarist for a group called Pinwheel. Gibbard issued a cassette named You Can Play These Songs with Chords, which went to become a major hit, much to his surprise. As a result of this, he decided to form a complete band and recruited Nathan Good as the drummer, Nick Harmer as the bass guitarist and Chris Walla as the lead guitarist. Death Cab for Cutie was officially created at the Western Washington University in Bellingham but today it enjoys a massvie fan base all across the region.

The quartet went to work on an LP, which was released on the 18^th of August, 1998 under the name of Something About Airplanes. The record managed to get favorable reviews in the independent music scene and went on to become a considerable success. The band released their follow up album in the year 2000. It was entitled We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes. During the production of this record, Nathan Good departed from the band and Jayson Tolzdorf-Larson took his place as drummer. Some of the most well known songs from the album included Company Calls Epilogue, The Employment Pages and several more as well. The group soon went on their first full-fleged tour of the United States, performing at venues all over the country. Shortly afterward, Jayson Tolzdorf-Larson left the band as well, to be replaced by Michael Schorr.
 
With a new change in their line up once again, Death Cab for Cutie went on to work on another album and released The Forbidden Love EP. This was issued on the 24^th of October, 2000 and gained moderate success. It was followed by another LP the following year, titled The Photo Album. The line up was changed one more time in the year 2003, when Jason McGerr from Eureka Farm replaced Michael Schorr. The group then released another album titled Transatlanticism in October of the same year. Various songs from the record were featured in several television shows such as Californication, CSI: Miami, Six Feet Under, and The O.C. In addition to this, a few tracks from the album also appeared in movies including Mean Creek and The Wedding Crashers. The following year, the group recorded a live EP. Titled as The John Byrd EP, based on the name of their sound engineer, this live album was released in March of the year 2004.
 
In November of the same year, Death Cab for Cutie signed a contract with Atlantic Records and released some of their most popular songs with the label, such as Crooked Teeth. Soul Meets Body, and countless more as well. They have produced numerous successful albums over the course of their career and continue to work on more compositions for their fans.
