He grew obsessed with the music of Merle Haggard & Waylon Jennings. It all paid off handsomely, as Capitol records heard his work & signed him up. Dierks Bentley came out in 2003, to great public & critical acclaim, fuelled by the catchy single “What Was I Thinkin’”. Modern Day Drifter followed with great aplomb in 2005, matching its predecessor in Platinum certification, while the #1s & awards rolled on for Bentley. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry as its third youngest inductee in 2005, & married Cassidy Black that year. 2006’s Long Trip Alone saw success as well, & Bentley then delivered the somewhat curious idea of a Greatest Hits album early in his career. A few fresh acoustic singles helped put freshness into the concept though, & Grammy nominations kept piling up. After Feel That Fire, he released his fifth studio album Up on the Ridge in August 2010, which is distinct for its focus on bluegrass.
