Il Volo is an Italian operatic pop group that debuted into the world of Italian music in 2009. Since then, it has gone on to become an international sensation with its various songs and regarded as one of the best operatic pop teenage tenor groups in the world. It is a trio that is composed of Piero Barone, Gianluca Ginoble and Ignazio Boschetto. The name of this group is Italian for The Flight and the group itself has flown high, soaring above in the world of opera music. Il Volo story began many years. Piero Barone, one of the three members of the group, grew up in Agrigento in Sicily, Italy whereas Ignazio Boschetto grew up in Marsala in Sicily, Italy and Gianluca Ginoble in Roseto degli Abruzzi in the Italian region of Abruzzo. All three displayed a unique fondness for music and possessed outstanding vocal abilities from a young age, drawing the attention of the public and leading to performances in plays and a variety of Italian music programs. Before the formation of Il Volo, the three tenors had never met. In 2009, the three singers met on Ti Lascio Una Canzone, an Italian reality music competition aired on the RAI TV channel that took place at Sanremo's Ariston Theater. It was here that they met with each other as competitors in the reality show. It was won by Gianluca Ginlobe, one of the trio, who sang Il Mare Calmo Della Sera, a song by Andrea Bocelli.
 
While competing in the reality music contest, the three Il Volo members had the opportunity to perform the classic song, O Sole Mio, on stage together and after the competition, they began performing together. In 2010, there were one of the several groups and artists who participated in the making of famous charity song, We Are the World 25 for Haiti. During the same year, they also performed live at the Sanremo Music Festival, playing songs such as Un Amore Cois Grande and Granada. They also staged a live appearance for Queen Rania of Jordan during this music festival.
 
In 2010, Il Volo released its debut self-titled album after recording it at the Abbey Road Studios located in London. This album was released in Italy and ranked an amazing sixth on the Italian Albums Chart, being certified gold by the Federation of the Italian Music Industry. In 2011, their debut album's international version was released in countries such as the US where they performed live during the final show of the tenth American Idol. During this contest, they sang their song O Sole Mio which was then released as a single in the US. Their self-tilted album ranked tenth on the Billboard 200 charts and number one on the Billboard Classical Albums charts. It went on to sell a spectacular twenty three thousand copies in its first week only and ranked in the top ten of charts in countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands and France as well as first in Austria.
 
After the release of the international edition of their debut album, Il Volo released a Spanish version of the album to the Latin music world. This album was also massively successful, ranking sixth in Mexico, third on the Billboard Classical Albums chart, fourth on the Top Latin Albums chart and number one on the Latin Pop Albums chart.
 
Il Volo's Spanish album also received a Gold AMPROFON certification in Mexico and a Latin Gold Award from the RIAA. In 2011, they also performed twice on The Talk, the President's Star Charity Show, the MDA Labor Day Telethon, Entourage and the Detroit Opera House. They also received two Latin Grammy Award nominations and the number of those watching them live in concerts through Il Volo tickets also grew by the thousand
