Jo Koy is an American standup comedian from Tacoma within the US state of Washington. Born as Joseph Glenn Herbert, he adopted Jo Koy as his stage name, a name that stands for joker in the Filipino language. It was after his enrolement at this University that he began performing standup comedy shows in Las Vegas; he was already naturally a comic with his name being a nickname his family labeled him with at a young age. He began performing in 1994 at open mic night shows in Las Vegas clubs and soon followed this with becoming a regular at several Las Vegas clubs. He became a regular member of the Catch a Rising Star show that took place at the famous MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

He then decided to start playing his own shows complete with his own booked venue. He rented the Huntridge Theater and began selling tickets for shows he performed live at the venue.
