Mana was formed in 1978 by a group of Mexican friends in the city of Guadalajara in Mexico. Initially they called themselves The Green Hat Spies and played cover songs of some of their favorite artists and bands but later on they changed the band name to Mana. This was their first hit single and immediately after that the band started touring to neighboring countries like Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, alone in Mexico they performed around 250 times. October 1992 saw Mana releasing yet another amazing album Donde Jugaran Los Ninos?, this album included several hit singles like "Como Te Deseo", "Oye Mi Amor' and 'Vivir Sin Aire", Mana went on an international tour right after this in 17 countries and performed around 268 concerts.

Cuando los Angeles Lloran was released in 1995 followed by Suenos Liquidos which was recorded in Puerto Vallarta. This album was released in 36 countries simultaneously; this album won the band a Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. In 1999 Mana recorded an unplugged album called Mana MTV Unplugged. In 2002, Mana released another unusual album Revolucion de Amor, in this album they experimented by blending their characteristic music tone with the rock and roll music of 60's and 70's, this album won Mana yet another Grammy for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. In 2003 Mana got the honor to perform with some of the most acclaimed artists of modern times like Andrea Bocelli, Buno, Queen, Deep Purple and Bono of U2 at the annual Pavarotti and Friends concert.

After a hiatus of four years, Mana released yet another hit album Amar es Combatir, this album was at #4 on US Charts and three of its tracks "Manda Una Serial", "Bendita Tu Luz", and "Labios Compartidos" were at #1 on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. This album also won the band an MTV Music Award for Best Music Video, two Grammy Awards for Best Latin Pop Airplay Song of the Year and Best Latin/Alternative Album and two Billboard Music Awards. Man's latest album till date is Drama y Luz, this was released in April 2011 and one single of this album "Lluvia al Corazon" was at #1 on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks.

Mana has been active in philanthropic activities as well and the band has made a foundation called the Selva Negra which is pretty active in doing efforts to protect the environment. During an observance of World Health Day in 2008 Mana and the Selva Negra Foundation was named "Champion of Health". Mana was also nominated the ambassadors of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization FAO.
