Talented music teacher and jingle composer Louis Davis nicknamed Chip Davis was the main brain behind the formation of Mannheim Steamroller in collaboration with gifted pianist Jackson Berkey in the year 1974. They both wrote and composed all the music of their first album using keyboards and synthesizers with an unusual music fusion which was uncommon at that time. When the time came for selling the rights of the album no recording label took the risk of marketing this new concept but Chip was confident so he made his own music label American Gramophone and released the 1st album Fresh Aire in 1975 which was a success and certified gold. Steamroller didn’t stop there and went on to release a whole series of albums in the next 15 years by the same name like Fresh Aire 11, Fresh Aire 111 up to Fresh Aire 8 released in 2000, all the albums except Fresh Aire 8 were certified gold.
Mannheim Steamroller kept working on other genres of music and bands first Christmas Holiday Music album Mannheim Steamroller Christmas was released in 1984, this album stood 2nd on the Holiday Albums Chart, brought the band into the lime light and certified multiple Platinum. Success kept on coming to the band with every next Christmas Album they released, the next 4 albums released over the next 14 years were namely A Fresh Aire Christmas, Christmas in the Aire, Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Live and The Christmas Angel: A Family Story were all instant hits, topped the Charts and certified Platinum.
