Portugal The Man released its first 2 albums with Fearless Records. The band has also released some of its material on its own imprint Approaching AIRballoons through indie label Equal Vision Records. On 2nd April, 2010, Portugal The Man signed with Atlantic Records. Interestingly all of the band members of Portugal The Man are born and raised in the Alaska, except for Jason Sechrist.

They released an EP with their own label, Approaching AIRballoons in 2007, entitled as It's Complicated Being a Wizard. Portugal The Man released their second album Church Mouth on 22nd June, 2007 which was again produced by Casey Bates. Right after that Portugal The Man set off for a US tour with the support of various people along with Play Radio Play, The Photo Atlas, The Only Children and Tera Melos.
After doing tours all over the place Portugal The Man was successful in developing a very strong and loyal fan line. They released another album, Censored Colors, on 16th September, 2008, they did it with their own label Approaching AIRballoons in collaboration with Equal Vision. After the release of this album John Gourley was selected as the recipient of AP Magazine's Best Vocalist of the Year in 2008. The later year in 2009, Portugal The Man gave several performances apart from playing at Lollapalooza, Chicago, Bonnaroo and Grant Park.
After the Censored Colors, Portugal The Man released another album on 21st July, 2009. The title of the album was The Satanic Satanist, the theme of the album is John Gourley's telling us the stories of his childhood. Being the first album of Portugal The Man which had pre production, it was recorded with Radiohead fame and Paul Q. Kolderie of Pixies. Portugal The Man released the video of the single Do You, from this album on 17th September, 2009. The album peaked at number 81 on Billboard 200. Portugal The Man released another album on 2nd March, 2010 with the title American Ghetto, the album was produced by Approaching AIRballoons and Equal Vision. Later on, most recently on 18th July Portugal The Man released their other album in 2011 titled as, In The Mountain, In The Cloud, it was released with: Atlantic Records, its single Got It All (This Can't Be Living Now) got really famous among its fans.
