After Nugent's departure from the band, he signed a deal with Frank Zappa's DiscReet Records and recorded his second last album with The Amboy Dukes by the name of Call of the Wild. That was his last venture with this band.
The end of his career with The Amboy Dukes meant a beginning of a new solo career. By 1975, Nugent was actively involved in working his own music and is own solo career. Boosted by his history with the previous band, Nugent got the jump start that he needed and his fame sky rocketed. He got together with a few other talented artists and released his self titled debut solo album which certified multi platinum. Along with Derek St. Holmes, Clifford Davies, Rob Grange, Ted Nugent gave a series of highly successful albums till the early 1980's when suddenly the sales of his records started dwindling.
This dry patch lasted for about eight to nine years when finally the band released Damn Yankees. This was a majorly successful album which sold over five million copies worldwide.
