He was born as Tracy Darrell Adkins in the sparsely populated town of Sarepta, Webster Parish, northern Louisiana to a mill worker father of English and Irish descent. Adkins impressed a scouting Capitol Records executive, earning a recording contract. His debut single was 1996’s Top 20 hit “There’s a Girl in Texas”. Dreamin’ Out Loud, his debut album, was out soon after. He enjoyed tremendous success in the late 90s, and after doing a rehabilitation program after being caught drunk driving, he returned to the fold with a number of hits in the mid-2000s.

He has released an opinionated autobiography along with doing voiceovers for KFC commercials and shows on television, where he has reached the finals of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’.
