Cleveland Cavaliers Tickets
Popularly known as Cavs, Cleveland Cavaliers is Ohio based professional basketball team. As an expansion team of National Basketball Association (NBA), the team began playing in 1970 with the team ownership by Nick Mileti. Cleveland Arena was their first home game arena under the guidance of the coach Bill Fitch. Austin Draft, the first pick in 1971 proved to be of immense success as he made smashing hit score for the team.
As the talented players were added to the team, the performance improved with each passing season. 1975-76 turned to be the team’s most noted years with respect to performance. Fitch was titled as the Coach of the Year for giving 49-33 and a division title. The same year the team achieved the Central Division Title for the first time. In the era of 80’s the team was sold to Ted Stepien who made drastic changes in the team structure changing the coaches as well as many top- rated playing. He even made several poor trades of players and even replaced few draft picks too. This resulted in decline of the team’s performance. Later on NBA prohibited trading the earliest draft- picks. This law was named as “Ted Stepien Rule”. In order to broaden the horizon of the team Stepien tried to change the name of the team from Cleveland Cavaliers to Ohio Cavaliers. The thought behind this act was to grab the position in other arenas too including the noteworthy Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, but unfortunately it failed badly. Later on Stepien made an attempt to move the team to Toronto but two brothers, George and Gordon leaped in and purchased the team thus keeping it intact at Ohio.
As the team came into the hands of Gund, it made new progress and achieved new grounds of success. In mid 80s the team adopted Cavs as an official short name as it helped them in marketing purposes. The decade of 90’s brought forward a lot of disappointments as the team underwent many retirements. With the departure of Daughtery, Price and Nancy, the team suffered and it could not give a praiseworthy performance. But as Mike Fritello was hired as the head coach, the team showed signs of glory. By mid 90s Cavaliers was rated as NBA’s one of the best defensive team.
In 2003 the team dropped down to the bottom of the league with a dire need of a key player who could pull it up and revive it again. Eventually the team selected LeBron James, a high school successor. His selection was a turning point in the franchise’s history. Starting the year with hope of success for the team, James was titled as King James who later embraced the team with the title Rookie of the Year Award.
The 2005 season marked huge changes in the team’s structure. The new owner Dan Gilbert and the head Coach Mike Brown, the team struggled for a new era of clinching records. The same year the team was able to appear in the playoffs since 1998 and they performed fairly well too as LeBron James was stated as the backbone of the team. Although he was the youngest in the team, yet his contribution lead the team to score beyond imagination. The following season of 2006-07 also went well for the team as the success ratio remained at the top. But with the advent of 2008, the team suffered many injuries and thus changes to the roster were also made to bring back the life in the team.
As the player trading was over, the team made drastic improvement in the game thus winning acclaim and the praiseworthy titles. Mike, the coach was regarded as the NBA Coach of the Year title while the young James earned his second title of NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. The preceding year also won victories to the team as many new players were traded in the team to boost the performance and to support James too. The year 2010 brought many discomforts to the team and its fans. James made an announcement to depart from the team and join Miami Heat. This was the biggest setback suffered by the team. For the rest of the year, the team remained busy in reconstructing themselves as the coach was also replaced and other coaching members were also replaced to bring back life and vigor in the team.
