Dallas Stars was formed as Minnesota North Stars in 1967 and the team was based in the State of Minnesota but then in 1993-94 they relocated to Dallas Texas and name was changed. This was take off time for the Stars as from 1997-2000 they continuously won the Divisional Title, won 2 Conference Championships and 1 Stanley Cup beating Buffalo Sabres 4-2 in 1998-99 and they again went on to play the Stanley Cup final in 1999-2000 but this time lost to the New Jersey Devils 2-4. In 2000-01 they again reached the Conference Semi-final but lost to their old enemy the Blues and from 2000 onwards the Stars till date have not won any Conference or Stanley Cup final.

In 2002-03 and 2005-06 the Stars stood first in the Division but failed to advance to the finals. In the year 2007-08 Dallas Stars had a few formidable players like Mattias Norstorm, Brad Richards and Mike Modano, the Stars surprised everyone with their spectacular performance and stormed to the Conference finals beating on the way two very strong opponents Anaheim Ducks 4-2 and San Jose Sharks 4-2 but lost to the Detroit Red Wings in a nail biting final. In 2009-10 seasons due to departure of Marty Turco and Modano plus key players like Sergei Zubov and Brad Richards suffering injuries the Stars were unable to put up a good performance and as a result their ranking was low and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Despite going through a bad phase the Dallas Stars still have strong players like Adam Burish, James Neal, Loui Eriksson, Nicklas Grossman, Matt Naskanen, and Philip Larsen.
