And after putting a successful end to their regular season, Panthers went on to make it to the playoffs for the first as the fourth seed. Panthers kept on surprising the hockey fans throughout the playoff series as they initially swept Philadelphia Flyers in six games and later on they defeated Pittsburgh Penguins in seven games. After sweeping two of the top most seeded teams, Panthers saw the face of the Stanley Cup Final Series for the first time. In the finals, Panthers went head to head with the Colorado Avalanche, who pulled off victories in four games over Panthers. During that season, Panthers managed to win their first and only Conference Championship title.
Panthers kicked off their following season with ample confidence and good hopes. And thanks to all that, they maintained a 17 win streak during the first half of their regular season. Although their performance deteriorated later in the season, they still managed to make it to the playoffs, only to lose in the first round to Rangers. With the beginning of their 1997-98 season, Panthers made a mediocre start and maintained the same condition throughout the season. After facing a somewhat poor start, the team’s General Manager MacLean was replaced by Bryan Murray as the team’s new general manager. Even that change couldn’t do wonders for the team as they finished with only 24 wins, the franchise’s worst record so far.
In 1998, the Panthers relocated to Bank Atlantic Center for their home games. During that season, Panthers revised their tradition of making it to the playoffs again in their 1999-00 season. But unfortunately they couldn’t progress further and lost in first round of the playoffs as New Jersey Devils pulled off a victory against them. The following season, Panthers posted yet another poor season record, and had the franchise’s worst ever regular season finish. But as of 2008, Florida Panthers have the distinction of being the only NHL franchise who has the lifetime winning percentage equal or more than .500.
During their 2008-09 season, Panthers broke out of the shell of mediocrity when they posted the Franchise’s second best regular season record with 41 wins and scored 93 points.
