The Bulldogs are located in Athens at Georgian state of the United States. They are the members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and play for Division I as well as for the Football Bowl Subdivision. They mainly compete as the teams listed for the Southeastern conference. The Bulldogs are officially represented with red and Black colors and Uga the Bulldogs is their official mascot. Their Fight song "Glory Glory" is the most loved anthems of Athens.
The Georgian Dawgs have a rich legacy spanning over many decades. The marked history of these varsity teams are in sports like baseball, basketball, cross country, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track, and volleyball. These teams have the men's and women's representation combining up to a total of 19 teams sponsored by the university. Their 37 National titles and 130 Conference titles over the years have marked them as the promising candidates of the future. John Russell, Wally Butts, Dan Magill, Forrest "Spec" Towns Howell Hollis, Erskine "Erk" Russell, Herman Stegeman, Fran Tarkenton, and Herschel Walker are few of the legendary Dawgs that made Gergian Bulldogs what they are today. The celebrated coaches like Jack Bauerle, Mark Richt, Andy Landers, Suzanne Yoculan and Manuel Diaz are also great assets that Georgians are proud of.
The name Georgia bulldogs given to the Georgia athletes carry has an interesting tale to it. In November 1901 at the Georgia vs. Auburn football game, the fans commonly pinned the badges saying 'Eat 'em Georgia' along with a picture of a Bulldog. Since that day Georgian athletes are known with this title and their UGA Mascots further enhances this image. The title is believed to carry a distinctive dignity as well as ferocity that are truly evocative.
The eminent teams of this varsity include football and basketball. The Bulldogs football team playing for South Eastern Conference has enough reasons to celebrate. They play all their home game at the Sanford Stadium which is an on campus sports facility of the University of Georgia. The team has twice earned the glory of being the National Champions and has won South Eastern Conference title for twelve times. The team has been known for their Deep Oldest Southern Rivalry with Auburn Tigers. The teams share a profound history dating way back in the 1892.
The Dawg's basketball teams both men and women are also a proud asset of the varsity. The legendary Lady Bulldogs once coached by Coach Andy Landers, the pioneer in basketball has brought unmatched glory that is still unbeaten. The gymnastics, swimming, diving and tennis have also been bulldog's forte. They have earned as much as ten national titles in gymnastics along with thirteen national championships won by men's and women's teams.
