Los Angeles Clippers career in NBA started in 1970 as Buffalo Braves along with 2 other teams and they played all their initial home games at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium till 1978 and then the team was relocated to San Diego and name was changed to San Diego Clippers. After 6 years Clipper’s owner Irv Levin sold the team to the Los Angeles lawyer and businessman Donald Sterling for $20 million in 1984 and he relocated the newly bought team to his hometown Los Angeles and renamed Los Angeles Clippers. From 1984 till 1999 the Clippers played their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena but since then they have moved to the very beautiful Staples Center located on 1111 S. Figueroa Street in Los Angeles with a seating capacity of over 19000 spectators.
The initial years of the Clippers were not very promising as they were new to the game but with the passage of time their game improved and in 1973-74 season they went on to play their first ever Conference semifinal losing 4-2 to the much experienced Boston Celtics. With good players like Don May, Bob Kauffman and Randy Smith the team improved and in 1974-75 season they stood 2nd in the Division and again qualified for the semifinals this time losing to the Washington Bullets 4-3. The Clippers repeated their good form for yet another season in 1975-76 as they again stood 2nd in the Division and played the Conference semifinals for the 3rd consecutive time but lost again 4-2 to their old rivals the Celtics.
From 1976 onwards till 1984 the Clippers failed to give an impressive performance despite having fine players like Paul Silas and Bill Walton. After shifting to Los Angeles in 1984 things didn’t improve and in 1986-87 season the team scored their second worst single-season record in NBA history as 2 main players Norm Nixon and Marques Johnson were injured. In 1989-90-91 a rebuilding phase commenced as the Clippers appointed a new coach Larry Brown and new players like Ron Harper, Charles Smith and Danny manning were signed, this was fruitful as the team finished with a good winning season standing 5th in the Division and after 16 years qualified for the playoffs but lost in the 1st round to Utah Jazz 3-2. The next season was impressive as the Clippers stood 4th in Division and went to the playoffs but this time lost 3-2 to the Houston Rockets.
The next 3 seasons saw the Clippers playing a mediocre game as they stood 7th in the Division but again went on to play in the first round of the Conference playoffs but lost to old rivals the Jazz 3-0 in 1992-93. In the late 90’s Los Angeles Clippers acquired Keyon Dooling, Darius Miles and Corey Maggette, these agile and aggressive players made the Clippers game very high-flying and exciting which improved their fan following and match attendance also improved. In 2004 promising players like Elton Brand, Shaun Livingston and Bobby Simmons were added to the roster, this made the Clippers even stronger and in 2005-06 after many years stood 2nd in the Division, qualified for the playoffs beat Denver Nuggets in the first round and played Conference semifinals after almost 3 decades but lost to the Phoenix Suns 4-3.
The Clippers surely display an impressive game and still have a formidable lineup with players like Chris Kaman, Craig Smith, Willie Warren, Brian Cook and Baron Davis. The Los Angeles Clippers are improving with every game, gradually becoming a strong entertaining team and watching them in action is a must for all basketball fans, so grab your Los Angeles Clippers tickets from us and have a riveting experience!
