Minnesota Timberwolves were founded in 1989 after NBA granted expansion to the state. 2 names were selected for the team Timberwolves and Polars, finally the name Timberwolves was finalized after majority vote taken from 842 city councils. History behind the word Timberwolves is that Minnesota State has one of the highest no of wolves in its forests. The team was purchased by popular businessman Glen Taylor in 1994. Timberwolves are headquartered in Minneapolis Minnesota and since 1990 they play all their home games at the very famous Target Center located on 600 First Avenue North in Minneapolis, this center can seat 20500 spectators.

The first few years were mediocre for the Timberwolves as they were an apprentice team and weren’t able to give an impressive performance, despite that their game seemed pretty fiery and promising and in 1990 they drew one of NBA’s History highest crowd in the game against the Denver Nuggets. The Timberwolves were becoming a fan favorite with some key players like Isaiah Rider and Christian Laettner but couldn’t live up to the expectations of their fans and till 1995 they were normally placed at the lowest positions in the Division.

In 2001 Timberwolves added some new talent namely Maurice Evans, Loren Woods and Gary Trent. 2003-04 season proved to be their best ever till date, Kevin Garnett shined again, the team for the 1^st time was ranked top seed in the Division and were simply unstoppable as they stunned everyone by beating Denver Nuggets 4-1 and won their 1^st every Conference semifinal from Sacramento Kings 4-3 but lost the Finals to Los Angeles Lakers 4-2.

2004-05 season was not very good for Timberwolves as they stood 3^rd in the Division and couldn’t qualify for the playoffs, onwards for the next few seasons they struggled with internal issues like constant coach changes, contract issues and complaints from players side. In 2007 a strategic step was taken as the main player Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for 5 young talented players and this is still considered as the largest trade off picks against a single player. The overall performance after Garnett was pretty mediocre as they stood 4^th in the Division twice and in 2009-10 they stood 5^th. The Timberwolves are desperate to win the NBA title and they have recently build up a very strong fiery team which has some extraordinary players like Jonny Flynn, Lazar Hayward, Cory Brewer, Sebastian Telfair, Nemanja Bjelica and Paulao Prestes.
