1976 was the year when NBA was formed and the Nets were all set to continue with their good form but they failed to make an impression for the first few years. It was in the season of 1981-82 that they drafte star player Buck Williams and things started to improve. The Nets managed to build a tough team with players like Williams, Otis Birdsong and Michael Ray but injuries to the players hampered the Nets success and they lost the 1983-84 Conference semifinals to Milwaukee Bucks 4-2. Things didn’t improve for the next few years as the team kept on struggling with player injuries and continuous coach changes.

 New Jersey Nets weren’t able to make an impression despite having some good players and mostly stood at the lowest positions in the Division or barely made to the playoffs but the decade of 2000 was the dawn of a new era for the Nets as they drafted players like Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson. Kidd went on to be the major force behind winnings of the Nets, in 2001-02 for the 1^st time in years the Nets stood 1^st in the Division and went on to play their 1^st ever NBA final losing to Los Angeles Lakers 4-0. Nets shined again in 2002-03 by topping the Division and playing their 2^nd NBA final losing this time to the San Antonio Spurs 4-2. Kidd and Jefferson were joined in 2004 by yet another superstar Vince Carter, together they were a force to reckon with but Kidd underwent knee surgery in 2004 and the Nets weren’t able to repeat this form again despite playing well. They managed to reach the Conference semifinal in 2003-04, 2005-06 and 2006-07.

Kidd and Carter made history in 2007 as they become the 2^nd duo ever to record triple doubles in the same game, Carter to date is an NBA 8 times All-Star and Kidd is 10 times NBA ALL-Star. In 2008 both Kidd and Carter departed but the Nets still have some good promising players like Jordan Farmar, Troy Murphy, Brook Lopez and Anthony Morrow.
