New Orleans Saints Tickets
The tale of New Orleans Saints ascent into reckoning for the NFC Championship is one fraught with underachievement & resilience in the form of the remarkable recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The Saints are a professional football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Formed in 1967, the team played in the NFC West division from 1970-2001, before competing in the NFC South division thereafter. Although the Conference & Super Bowl Championship columns are blank, the team has recently strung together a remarkable run that may indicate that the Saints have finally turned a corner.
Sports entrepreneur Dave Dixon is credited with making the franchise's formation possible, as his incessant attempts to bring a football team to New Orleans found an opening when NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle met with Congressman Hale Boggs to secure his vote for the NFL-AFL merger. Dixon grabbed the opportunity to get his terms met, & the Saints were named after New Orleans' beloved household song "When the Saints Go Marching In". The Louisiana Superdome, the world's largest fixed dome structure, became the Saints' home in 1975; though its splendor hardly reflected the team's shallow performances. 1991 saw a maiden division title courtesy the brilliant defense of the "Dome Patrol". 2000 saw the team's first-ever playoff win. The slow rise was interrupted in surreal fashion by the havoc that Hurricane Katrina wreaked across New Orleans. An emotional return to the repaired Superdome culminated in the Saints' victory over Atlanta Falcons in the second-highest rated cable program of all time. Buoyed on by the success, the Saints completed a remarkable run that ended in a loss to the Chicago Bears in the 2006 NFC Championship Game. The Saints then managed to surprise experts with a thrilling 13-match winning streak that gave them a division title & 1st seed for the playoffs in 2009.
Sean Payton has overseen the resurgence from the Saints as head coach, while Mickey Loomis undertakes the general managerial duties. With two division titles rewarding Payton's faith in his players & his selection policy, the Saints have produced livewires like Deuce McAllister & Jeremy Shockey in the recent past, & the team has much to offer.
New Orleans Saints are one of five teams yet to feature in the Super Bowl, owing to them not having won a Conference Championship. The closest they have got is a 39-14 loss to the Chicago Bears in the 2006 NFC Championship Finals. It is an unwanted record, & one that Payton's team is close to breaking, as evidenced by their recent purple patch. Doug Atkins, Earl Campbell, Jim Finks & Jim Taylor join three New Orleans Saints coaches in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Saints fans have stuck with the team through thick & thin, & the return season to the Superdome was the franchise's first sold-out season. Saints seasons have sold out every year since, strengthening the belief that a new chapter awaits enthusiastic fans with New Orleans Saints tickets.
