New York Yankees Tickets

Steeped in an illustrious history that sets them apart as the most decorated sports franchise in America, the New York Yankees have a lot to live up to. Mingling the beauty of the old & preserved with the modern brilliance of the magnificent new Yankee Stadium, the team have stepped into the new era with aplomb. The professional baseball outfit hails from the New York City borough, the Bronx. The Yankees play in the American League East Division, having grabbed 40 AL pennants along the way.

Starting out was never easy. Originally based in Baltimore as the Orioles, the franchise was blocked out of New York by NL's politically strong New York Giants. The AL intervened to move them to New York as the Highlanders. After a relative easing of tensions, the team moved to the Giants' Polo Grounds in 1913. Two consecutive losses to the Giants in the World Series heightened tensions again, & the Yankees (as they became known) moved to the Yankee Stadium in 1923. The legendary Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig decimated oppositions, completing a fearsome Yankees lineup, called "Murderers' Row" for the 1927 season, & winning many World Series. When Gehrig retired in 1939, the brilliant Joe DiMaggio took up the mantle, shattering records. With WWII robbing the Yankees of many of their best players, the stage was set for a new generation of Yankees superstars. Yogi Berra, Don Larsen & Coach Casey Stengel were instrumental in six World Series wins in the 50s; while the 60s saw the M&M Boys (Mantle & Maris) rule the roost. Ownership scrambles & internal conflicts (they were nicknamed "the Bronx Zoo") led to a steep decline, & excellent players like Thurman Munson & Don Mattingly couldn't provide the killers instinct. With renewed focus on quality player production from the farm system rather than buying talent, the Yankees unearthed gems like Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams & Mariano Rivera, who would usher in a glorious period at the turn of the century. The team had a World Series-winning debut season in the new Yankee Stadium in 2009.

General Manager Gene Michael shifted the club's focus to nurturing home-grown talent, a policy continued by current GM Brian Cashman to great success. Joe Girardi is manager of a talented roster containing eminent names such as C.C.Sabathia, Jorge Posada, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter & Mariano Rivera.

With 27 World Series titles, the Yankees overtook the Montreal Canadiens record of 24 Stanley Cups as America's most successful sporting franchise. Boasting 44 Hall-of-Famers, the Yankees also started the healthy tradition of retiring numbers with Lou Gehrig's number 4 in 1940. Many yearly baseball awards have been named in honor of eminent Yankee players.

The Yankees are massive crowd-pullers. 2005's season attendance stood at a record-shattering 4 million. With rowdy fan clubs, including the notorious Bleachers Creatures, New York Yankees tickets are sold out in hours, giving fans the opportunity to drown in the noisy atmosphere & the splendor of the team.
