Toronto FC has been the first Canadian team which has become part of MLS that comprises of only American teams. After that however, MLS has invited other cities in Canada for expansion also like Vancouver, B.C. The CEO of MLS opined before the commencement of the 2007 season, that around 14,000 fans would be attending Toronto FC home games. The 2009 season saw crossing this limit and 16,000 tickets have been sold for the concerned period. Also, an extra 14,000 enthusiasts await entry for the games. Seattle Sounders FC has surpassed this by claiming 25,000 season tickets though.
Toronto FC are not entitled to play for the U.S. Open Cup and just participate in MLS. As of now, they compete only against the Montreal Impact and the Vancouver Whitecaps. They have proceeded bravely sweeping new grounds though losing at times also. During their second year of the championship in 2009, the TFC beat the Montreal by four goals. Since Toronto FC is still unknown in the soccer circles, they are not faced with rivalry by any MLS team at the moment.
The Toronto FC does have a strong rivalry with the Montreal Impact that won the inaugural Canadian Championship. They are also going to have a Canadian team to play against MLS in 2011. At present, Toronto FC games can be seen on CBS Television and some other networks.
