UConn Huskies got their nickname in 1934 after the school was renamed Connecticut State College from Connecticut Agricultural College in 1933, prior to which, the teams were called Aggies. There is an undeniable homophonic link between Yukon and UConn, since in the former the Huskies are supposed to be native. The nickname of ‘huskies’ goes back to before 1939, until which time the school’s name was not changed to University of Connecticut. The Huskies’ women’s teams are also referred to as UConn Huskies, as do the men’s teams.
UConn Huskies are made quite a reputation in Field Hockey having entered its Final Fours as many as nine times, and won the championships on 1985 and 1981.
