The new city brought more success for the team as they once again won the Turner Championship thus becoming one of the few teams to win the prestigious title two years in a row.
The Utah Grizzlies moved into the magnificent E-Center in 1997 where they are still based. Salt Lake won the rights to host the 2002 Winter Olympics so the city needed a new stadium to host such a big event. The Salt Lake Organizing Committee accepted a proposal from the West Valley City to build a dedicated new ice hockey stadium for the event. Funds were raised through various channels and the magnificent stadium opened its doors for the public in 1997. The E-Center had a name change in 2010 when Maverik, Inc were handed the naming rights of the arena and it is now called the Maverik Center.
A major issue arose in the year 2001 as the IHL folded for Utah and the Grizzlies were left to choose another league. After much deliberation they went to become members of the AHL and it remained that way for four years until they move to the EHCL in 2005. As soon as the Utah Grizzlies joined the EHCL, the management started taking necessary measures to turn the side into a successful one. The first of those major steps was the hiring on Jason Christie as the coach of the side. It was a big coup for the Grizzlies because Jason was a five time champion with Peoria Rivermen.
The move to EHCL also re-ignited some of the old rivalries for the Utah Grizzlies with teams from Long Beach, Phoenix and Las Vegas. These rivalries gave an extra edge to the season and helped the team sell Utah Grizzlies tickets to its fans who looked forward to these games. After a few nearly seasons, the franchise made its way to the conference finals during the 2007-08 season. It was the first time since 1996 that the Grizzlies had made it this far. Kevin Colley was named the coach starting next season and he guided Utah back to the play-offs for the third time in the past four years. During that season the franchise had twelve to thirteen players out at a time due to injuries or other reasons which made the play-off achievement even more remarkable.
The Utah Grizzlies went to the play-off finals in 2009-10 and 2010-11 season. The success enabled a lot of the team players move up to the NHL level where they ended up having very successful starts to their new endeavors. The success of the Grizzlies can be measured from the fact that during its seventeen year history the franchise has produced over two hundred NHL players which really is saying something.
