Cabaret Tickets
Incase Cabaret is not cited as the greatest musical of all times, it certainly stands amongst the rankings of some of the greatest and finest musicals of all times. Not only that it has a captivating plot and delivers a meaningful message from historic point of view, it also consolidates some of the finest songs and musical pieces altogether.
Multiple Tony Award winning musical, Cabaret emerged on the stage at Broadway for the first time in 1966. Based upon 'I Am a Camera', a play by John Van Druten, Cabaret tells the tale of Sally Bowles who happens to be an English Cabaret performer and her relationship with an American writer named Cliff Bradshaw. Cabaret is set in Berlin, when Nazis were rising to power back in 1931. The musical is mainly centered on the night life of the Seedy Kit Kat Klub.
Presently Cabaret stands as one of the oldest and longest musicals in the Broadway history. Its original production at the Broadway opened at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 20, 1996; however prior to that, 21 previews of the musical were ran. The original Broadway production was choreographed by Ron Field while Harold Prince took charge as the director of the musical. During its successful 1,165 performance run on Broadway, the musical was transferred to Imperial Theatre and then to the Broadway theatre before closing off. The original cast members of the Broadway Production included Bert Convy, Jill Haworth, Jack Gilford, Joel Grey and Lotte Lenya. Being a big success, the original Broadway production garnered 10 Tony Award Nominations, out of which it was able to get a hold of 7 Tony Awards, including an Award for Best Musical and Best Choreography. After such a great response and fan following a Broadway Revival of Cabaret was inevitable. As expected, the musical's revival production opened at the Imperial Theatre on October 22, 1987 and was again directed by Tony Award winning Harold Prince. After being transferred Minskoff Theatre the musical completed its 261 performance run.
The second and final revival of the musical on Broadway took place in 1998 when the musical opened at the Kit Kat Klub that was formerly known as the Henry Miller's Theatre. Cabaret's second revival was a lot lengthier than the first one comparatively, and completed its amazing 2377 performance run on Broadway after being transferred to Studio 54.Cabaret's large performance count placed it on the third spot in the list of longest running revival in the history of Broadway Shows. The original revival cast included Natasha Richardson for the lead role of Sally while the other cast members included Ron Rifkin, John Benjamin Hickey and Mary Louis Wilson. The production was co-directed by Rob Marshall and Mendes, which is why it contained several differences from the original Broadway production. Just like the original and first revival productions, 1998 Revival was also nominated for a number of Tony and Drama Desk Awards out of which it managed to win 4 Tony Awards and 3 Drama Desk Awards.
Two years after its original Broadway Production kicked off, the musical was opened at London's West End at the Palace Theatre. After the closure of the original West End production, several Revivals of the musicals also set in.
The musical also made its way on the big screen in 1972 starring Liza Minnelli for the lead role of Sally. Although the movie features pretty much the same plot and storyline as the musical did, but it surely does fine job with the new characters that it introduces. Apart from that it also engulfs several other differences from the musical, to make the whole movie experience new and unique in its own sense.
As the curtains part, the show initiates as Cliff Bradshaw, a young American, sets his foot on the soil of Berlin on the New Year's Eve in 1930. After becoming friends with Ernst, Bradshaw heads of to Fraulein Schneider's lodging house and sooner than later he is introduced to a local Cabaret club named Kit Kat Klub where he finds Sally performing, while being intoxicated with cocaine. Later Sally moves in with Bradshaw and both get romantically involved with each other, and face several ups and downs as the story furthers.
Back again with its touring production, Cabaret still promises to give all the viewers the best theatrical entertainment with its touching and enlightening plot. So grab your Cabaret tickets today to ensure your place as the musical hits the venues near your place!
