The Jubilee! show, that runs for a breathless total of 90 minutes, is based on a seven act format. The first one, titled as “Showtime! Putting It into the Right Vernacular” sets the feminine cornucopian theme of the show through the opening number "Hundreds of Girls". Though the girls are not even more than a single hundred, being 85 in all, they do create a virtual sea of tantalizingly undulating bodies, both topless and scantily covered. The next act titled as the “Hand Balancing Specialty Act” depicts exactly what it implies. The following one of “Samson and Delilah Tonight, a Lesson from Ancient History” artfully pulls of a technically complicated sequence that culminates in the destruction of the temple and makes way for the drum beating and boleadoras twirling “Gaucho Specialty Act”. The show’s signature act is the next to follow that puts on an impressive display of the sinking of the Titanic, complete with thousands of gallons of water flooding the ship set. The aerialist duo of Stoyan & Dmitri mesmerize the audience with their flying acrobatic feats and gracefully fall away to set the stage for the pompous finale that incorporates a “top hat and tails” number that pays tribute to the theatrical legacies of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
Jubilee! was brought to the Las Vegas Strip by choreographer Donn Arden, who having been surrounded by beautifully sculpted females for most of his life is literally considered as the “Father of the Feathers”. The first recipient of the Entertainment Personality of the Year award also developed two other magnificent shows, the Desert Inn that opened in 1950 and the Lido de Paris eight years later. Where the former introduces the lusting eyes of the world to the seductively attired sirens, the latter featured an on-stage waterfall, hydraulic stages and an ice rink. The technically challenging experience of the Lido put Arden in a good stead to develop the Jubilee! show, along with the costume designers Bob Mackie and Pete Menfee.
Ever since its premier in August 1981, Jubilee! has come to define the risqué lure of Sin City. Three decades on, the show has become the longest-running and the only burlesque revue on the Las Vegas Strip and has even made it into the official record books.
