Composed by Claude Michel Schonberg, a French composer and libretto by Alain Boublil, the musical Les Miserables is based on a novel with the same name by Victor Hugo written in 1862. The musical was originally in French language and its English version had its libretto written by Herbert Kretzmer. The musical opened in London at the Barbican Center in 1985 and has been a super hit ever since. The musical has been running since 1985 continuously and therefore has been titled as the world’s longest running musical ever, having more than twenty six years of production completed.
