Three volumes of this novel have been released ever since - The Fellowship of the Ring published in 2001, The Two Towers published in 2002, and The Return of the King published in 2003; whereas, full-length productions of each have also been produced. Soon, in October 2010, the production will be staged again in the New York City. It is advised to reserve the Lord Of The Rings Tickets now, as chances of being a house-full are high!
The larger-than-life, high fantasy novel, 'Lord of The Rings', written by the popular British author called J. R. R. Tolkien, has been adapted by various media, multiple times till date. The examples of these various adaptations by several media can be seen as the different film versions of The Lord of the Rings, including animated films, fan films, and New Line Cinema films; audio adaptations of the book have also been found in the form of various radio plays, as well as the unabridged reading; and last but not the least, the staged version of Tolkien's fantasy novel, which can still be seen performing in theaters. There have been two basic versions of this fantasy epic:
The Cincinnati Version Productions
&
The Kevin Wallace Version Productions
However, none of the adaptors of either version ever stated their productions to be musicals (musical theatre), but, in fact, were specifically characterized as theatrical adaptations with basic tuneful fundamentals, devoid the composition of a musical by itself.
The novel Lord of The Rings follows a typical Tolkien setting, which is the Middle-earth. The staged versions of this novel puts in the picture the story of a modest hobbit who is invited to accept a treacherous mission of destroying an evil magic gold ring, while playing as the hero, without being mislead by its power.
Unabridged and complete stage musical adaptations of each of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King were produced and staged in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, due to lack of funding, the first production did not do well; whereas, the follow-ups, still, were soundly appreciated by both, spectators and critics equally. All the three adaptations featured the music of the Grammy Award nominee Steve Goers and were written by Blake Bowden.
In 2006, the theatre producer Kevin Wallace and his partner Saul Zaentz, in alliance with David Mirvish (Toronto theatre-owner) and Michael Cohl (concert promoter), created a stage theatrical revision. Shaun McKenna and Matthew Warchus wrote the book and lyrics, while, joining forces with Christopher Nightingale, A. R. Rahman (the very famous composer from the subcontinent) and Varttina composed the music. The musical premiered at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto, Canada. Upon receiving huge success, the show won 7 Dora Awards and the Time Magazine highly praised the production.
During the month of May, 2007, the show began previews at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, and premiered officially on June 19, 2007. This London production involved the same creative team as the Toronto production, but the list of the cast members decreased to 50. Produced at the cost of $12 million, the show was not only one of the most expensive musicals ever produced in the West End, but anywhere outside Las Vegas.
Soon, the magic of this fantasy epic and its fancy creatures can again be seen performing live on a stage, right before your eyes! Book your Lord Of The Rings Tickets today and have a wonderful evening with friends and family watching this fantastic production!
