The Nutty Nutcracker is basically a re-envisioned version of the original, two-act fairy tale ballet, known as The Nutcracker. Based on the famous book - Nutcracker and the Mouse King, by E.T.A. Hoffman, it got adapted into Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's famous and well-loved ballet The Nutcracker. The ballet is largely admired for its music, which belongs to the Romantic Period and features some of the most memorable melodies created by Tchaikovsky. The frequent usage of many of these tunes and melodies in film and television enable us to still hear and take pleasure from them. The Nutcracker was composed during 1891-92, when Marius Petipa, the legendary choreographer, asked Tchaikovsky to write the music for it. The ballet opened in 1892, at the Mariinsky Theatre of Russia, which is the home of the Kirov Ballet, while making its way to Western Europe during the 1930's. Soon, by 1940, The Nutcracker ballet had hit the theaters at America too, where it got performed for the first time by Ballet Russe. However, the American pioneers to perform the first full length Nutcracker were the San Francisco Ballet, which was choreographed by W. Christensen. Ever since, The Nutcracker has become an annual Holiday tradition that is enjoyed by each and every member of the family.
