Almost 18 years later, in 2004, the West End show was made into a movie. The movie was produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and it was directed by Joel Schumacher. It opened on Broadway in 1988 and began its first ever tour to Vienna and Japan. Today, it has become the most popular show in the history of Broadway with more shows than any other musical ever. It is the longest running musical in the entire history of Broadway.
