The name of the show suggests that the idea of the show is adapted from another Dancing Show named "Come Dancing" that was broadcasted on BBC T V from 1949 to 1998, and became the longest running show on Television. Come Dancing, however, wasn't exactly the same as Strictly Come Dancing featured the idea of having Celebrities do what was previously done by professional dancers only.
Strictly Come Dancing was aired for the first time for the first time on May 15, 2004 on BBC One and is still aired on that with the addition of BBC HD, on which it started being aired ever since its fourth series. The format of the show features couple of celebrities that are paired with professional ballroom dancers, and afterwards those pairs then go head to head with each other on the dance floor, and whoever impresses the panel of judges the most, gets the crown of being the winner. However it isn't as simple as it sounds, because viewers also play their role as their votes can also lead to the fortunate elimination of any of the pairs. The decision of who stays and who goes home is dependent on what was the ranking that was given to the dancers by the panel of judges plus the number of votes that were casted by the viewers through telephone voting. And just to add up, the proceeds of those telephone calls are utilized for social causes.
Apart from the regular show, several special editions of the show have also been produced along with the Live Tour. For the five consecutive years, a Christmas Special of the Show was also produced while some of the charitable shows were performed occasionally including 'Let's Dance for Comic Relief', 'Strictly African Dancing' and 'Children in Need Special'.
The tradition of the taking the show on the road started back in 2008 when the Live Tour was produced for the first time, and ever since then it has been held regularly each year. The coming Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour 2010 is scheduled to kick off somewhere in January and is expected to feature a number of celebrities including Natalie Cassidy, Zoe Lucker, Ali Bastian, Mark Ramprakash and Austin Healey.
