The classic tales of Wizards inspired from a 1939 L. Frank Baum's Novel the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The musical has beautiful compositions created by Harold Arlen with the words of E.Y. Harburg. The first time when Wizard of Oz opened in 1987 by the performers of Royal Shakespeare Company of the west end. This musical is an all time favorite of children all across the world and is performed prolifically by the community theatres. In 1902 the Wizard of Oz was transformed in to a stage presentation by the novelist himself. This act was showcased in Chicago and soon became a Broadway production. After a while the book was also adapted as a motion picture and earned many Oscars for its utter brilliance. The score of movie was also a hit in the circles. This instigated the idea of recreating the movie on stage by Frank Gabrielson. This musical didn't do much on the stage till in 1987 Royal Shakespeare Company came up with their version of the Wizard of Oz.
This musical was different than the previous version. It strongly imitated the themes and dialogues of the movie in an effort of keeping it real. This musical also employed the award winning original movie score in it and brought back the classic tracks like "The Jitterbug", "Over the Rainbow and "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead ." The musical was an attempt to keep the original feel and sense of the Wizardry world of Oz alive. This version of Wizard of Oz did its trick and then there was no stopping to it at all .many of the major production houses was recreating this tale of Oz on stage and the audiences never seemed to get weary of it .
The major productions included the 1989 The Wizard of Oz Live! Arena Show, 1993 U.S. Tour, 1995 the Wizard of Oz on Ice, 1995 the Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True, and 1997 Madison Square Garden Production. The musical was taken to the audiences all across US with the 1998 MSG Tour and 2008 U.S. Tour. In 2009 the Wizard of Oz returned to London with a new round of tremendous performances.
The Wizard of Oz is a story of 12 years old Dorothy Gale in a colorful farm and her dog Toto bites Miss Almira Gulch. Miss Gulch hits Toto and gets a sheriff to seize him. He escapes and comes back to Dorothy who runs away from the house to save Toto. She soon returns to home as there is this big storm on its way. The Tornado Blows away their house and gets stuck in a twister. After a while it drops on the earth with a big thump and when she opens the door, she finds herself into a new world. This is a colorful world of the munchkins knows as the Munchkinland. Here she is told by Glinda the good witch of north that she has finished an evil witch by dropping a house on her, Soon munchkin start their celebrations on the death. Dorothy becomes the star of the place and she magically gets the Rubbery red slippers of the dead witch of east. These slippers are also coveted by the west side witch and she instantly becomes Dorothy's enemy. Glinda advises her to take the help of the Wizards of Oz in order to find her way back home.
