Hampton Roads may have great waterfront property and a year-round ice-free harbor, but when it comes to entertainment, locals flock to only one venue: Chrysler Hall. Norfolk, Virginia’s premier performing arts venue has become famous for its charismatic outlook and elegance, which puts it at par with bigger venues. Part of the 14 acre site which also houses the Norfolk Scope Arena, it also is neighbors with other major centers collectively known as Seven Venues (which include Attucks Theater, Harbor Park, Harrison Opera House, Prism Theater at Scope Arena, and Wells Theater in addition to the aforementioned two). It is located on 215 St. Paul’s Blvd, Norfolk, and can be conveniently reached by the I-64 (from North) and Rt 58 (from West). Norfolk is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, which lies on the Eastern Seaboard of the US. The construction projects of both the Hall and Scope took off simultaneously when US Sen. A. Willis Robertson obtained federal funding for a multimillion-dollar cultural complex as part of a deal with President Lyndon Johnson.
Chrysler Hall can hold 2,500 people. It has three levels: Orchestra, Dress Circle, and Balcony. The seating arrangements allow perfect acoustics, and the sound permeates every corner. There are ample food and beverage facilities. Three parking lots give adequate parking space. These are the Scope Garage (entrance on St. Paul’s Blvd), Brambleton Lot (entrance across the street from Scope Arena and Chrysler Hall), and MacArthur Center North Garage (at 500 City Hall Avenue).
The venue has hosted many prominent shows and productions. Central to these is the resident company Broadway in Norfolk presented by JAM Theatricals. It hosts most touring Broadway productions. The famous Virginia Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1920, plays at Chrysler Hall and Ferguson Center, while Norfolk Forum and Virginia Ballet is also hosted there. Every spring, Virginia Arts Festival sets Chrysler Hall alight with breathtaking dance, music, and theater performances.
